Psychiatrist Treats Her Patient

Psychiatrist Treats Her PatientI'm a psychiatrist that has my own office. I used to share a practice with a partner of mine, but he has since retired. I knew that he only had a few years to go when we went into business together. I also knew that I would get all of his clients when he retired. That's why I did it. I knew that I would be raking in the bucks when he retired. I'm not stupid when it comes to business, even though most people think women are. Not me, I've got a good head on my shoulders.

Frank, he has been coming to see me for a few years now. He has come a long ways in his recovery. I know I shouldn't be talking about my patients, but I have disguised his name. You won't be able to tell who he is just by reading this. I know that he wouldn't mind me telling you this stuff anyway. He is the type of person who is open and honest with his problems. This is what really happened when Frank came into my office. Just remember, I have changed some of the small details slightly to protect his identity. Nothing else has been changed.

“How are you doing today Frank?” I asked as he laid down on the couch.

“Well, not so good,” Frank explained.

“What seems to be the problem?” I asked.

“I've been having panic attacks lately. I think it's because of my new job,” Frank explained, waiving his hands in the air.

“What about the new job has been giving your panic attacks?” I asked.

“I've been trying to understand that myself. I think it's because I will be doing something that I'm not familiar with. Around people that I don't know,” Frank said as he got up and looked at me.

I looked over his record and I saw that this was something that is usually a problem for Frank. I've treated him long enough to understand how he thinks and deals with situations. I keep notes in his file so I can remember the small details of his life. Stuff I can't talk about here, but I'm sure you understand. Frank is getting married in a few months and that has him all worked up as well. Men are always the ones who get worked up when it comes to marriage. Women, we get upset when we get close to the marriage date also. But, for us, it is much different. Men feel like they are being trapped into something that they don't want to do. Women on the other hand feel like marriage is telling the world how much you love each other. Two very different views from two people who will hopefully be spending the rest of their lives together.

“Have you been taking your medication?” I asked.

“Every day, twice a day,” Frank looked up at me in a matter of fact way.

“I would suggest that you just take things one at a time. Identify what triggers you and how you can deal with it. You need to do this one foot in front of the other,” I advised.

“That makes sense. You are always so helpful to me,” Frank said.

“I'm glad I can help you Frank.” I said as I looked over his record.

Frank takes only one medication twice a day. I have some patients who take up to four pills per day. That doesn't mean that he isn't as bad as they are, it just means that the one pill does the trick for him. Though, chances are he will have to be put on something else as the years go by. That's how this medication works. After several years it can loose it's effectiveness. Sometimes It can be very difficult finding out what medication works the best, but usually after some trial and error I get it right. You have to be patient when it comes to things such as this.

“Can I tell you something without you getting mad at me?” Frank asked.

“Sure,” I replied.

“Your tits look very nice today,” Frank said with a nervous smirk.

“Frank! Why are you looking at my breasts?” I asked shocked.

“Sorry, I was only looking because they are nice.” Frank said as he hung his head.
