Pulled Over by the Police
“Fucking shit!” I yelled.
I can't believe it. I can't believe there is a cop car behind me with it's lights on. I could see the officer slowly walking up to the car.
“Can I see your license and registration?” The officer asked.
“Why did you pull me over?” I asked confused.
“I pulled you over because you were going 55 in a 25 zone.” He said looking down at me.
“No way, this is a 55 zone.” I said as I looked for the things he asked me for.
“No, it is 25 Ma'm. It is 25 miles per hour because not too far up the road is a school.” He said as I handed him my license.
“I don't think I have my registration.” I said.
“Is this your vehicle?” He asked.
“Yes. I have owned it for the past five years.” I said looking up at him.
It was strange looking up at him. He didn't seem like a police officer. He was tall, like a basketball player. His hair was cut really short, like he had just gone to the barber.
“I will be back in a moment.” The officer said as he left his car.
Going thirty miles per hour faster than what you are supposed to can get you in big trouble. He could take away my license and my car right on the scene. I can't have that happen. I need a way to work. I need a car so I can get groceries.
“I'm going to have to give you a ticket.” He said when he returned.
I started to cry. I wasn't sad, but I thought it would get me out of the ticket.
“I am so sorry, I didn't realize I was going too fast.” I said between sobs.
“Ma'm, save your tears for someone else. I have a job to do.” The officer said.
“Have you been drinking tonight?” He asked as he leaned in my car.
“Maybe one or two drinks.” I said back to him.
“Ma'm I'm going to have to ask you to get out of your car.” He said opening up my car door.
“I'm not drunk. I promise you I'm not drunk.” I pleaded.
“I want you to walk in a straight line. I want you to hold your arms out straight when you do this.” He said pointing with his flashlight.
“Do you understand Ma'm?” He asked.
“Yes, but why do I have to do this?” I asked.
“Because I smell the odor of alcohol on your breath. I think you might be intoxicated.” He said motioning for me to walk kin a straight line.
I walked the line, but I stumbled all over the place. I forget how many drinks I had. I didn't think it was that many.
“Ma'm, would you like to take another test?” He asked.
“What if I say no?” I asked.
“Then I will arrest you for driving under the influence of alcohol.” The officer said.
“Okay, I'll do the next test.” I said.
“Okay, I want you to follow this light with your eyes.” He said.
“Okay, easy enough.” I said.
“You are moving your head. Move your eyes and not your head.” He said as he moved the small pen flashlight.
“Okay, you are under arrest for driving while intoxicated.” He said pulling out a a pair of hand cuffs.
